Proform 590T
ProForm’s Best Selling Entry Level Treadmill
The 590T is ProForm’s most popular model right now. It’s geared towards the casual jogger and walker and is a straight forward treadmill that will get the job done as long as you aren’t a fitness fanatic.
At $599 Proform is not surprisingly able to attract a lot of buyers. In the past, ProForm’s base treadmills were pretty unreliable. However, they’ve really been making strides over the last few years and the 590T is actually a pretty solid machine.
It also comes with a few bells and whistles that are not usually seen on a treadmill at this price.
Only question is… can you handle the somewhat pedestrian design and “cheap” looking console? (just our opinion)

The Skinny
The 590T was new for 2010 and we’re wondering if they’re positioning the ProForm Performance 400 (which is new for 2011) to be it’s replacement. Both models are similar in terms of power and size but we think the Performance 400 has the 590T beat in terms of bells and whistles.
The iFit card technology on the 590T is nowhere near as cool as iFit Live and Nike + in our opinion. (These do cost more than buying simple iFit cards mind you. If you want to learn more about these features check out the ProForm Performance 400 review)
Let’s dig a little deeper:
iFit card ready: Once you insert one of the iFit training cards into your treadmill it will track your progress and adjust the intensity levels of your machine so you can progress through a structured program. Throughout the workouts you get vocal tips and encouragement from trainers. (Jillian Michaels is on most of them) The iFit cards have now morphed into the more complex iFit live system but are still a good motivational tool. They sometimes have issues with their progression however. For example, on the “Lose Weight with Jillian Michaels” card we’ve used there’s a pretty intense jump in difficulty from Level 1 to Level 2. A smoother progression would have been nice! Having said that if you need a “push” to workout, these can do the trick.
iPod compatible: The speakers aren’t the best but you are bale to plug your iPod into the jack to listen to your music or audio.
Backlit LCD: In contrast to the Performance 400 the 590T has an LCD screen. In terms of looks we think it actually looks a bit nicer than the LED display sported by the 400. But, LED are easier to read and are more reliable. (Plus if the LCD screen goes out you have to replace the whole thing. With LED displays, you can replace the individual “mini bulbs” instead of the entire display which will save you money.)
The Bottom Line
The ProForm 590T is their best selling model because of it’s attractive price and it’s solid straightforward design. It’s a good walker’s treadmill that can also accommodate light joggers. We wouldn’t recommend it for any serious runners and we like some of the features on the newer ProForm 400 model.
When buying from ProForm always be prepared for a potential customer service…issue. They offer great prices on good machines but their people skills haven’t always been ideal.
