Livestrong LS 8.0T

Solid Entry Level Treadmill From Lance Armstrong Backed Livestrong

Livestrong may seem like a relatively new player in the treadmill market having launched in 2009. However, their treadmills are produced by Johnson inc. a company that is well known in the industry for being the producer of brands like Matrix and Horizon. So Livestrong isn’t as “green” as you might initially think. And it shows in their treadmills.

They offer three models and the LS8.0T is their entry level unit. It’s a solid machine that has a few cool features, especially for an $800 dollar treadmill. The questions you’re gonna have to ask yourself are (these are common): “Are you a relatively intense runner?” and “How many bells and whistles do you need to stay happy and motivated?”

Before we break the LS 8.0T down let’s look at it’s core features:

The Skinny

As we’ve mentioned the Livestrong LS8.0T is a good entry level treadmill. It has classic, attractive styling with a nice black and yellow design. What are some of the features that stand out?

Let’s dig a little deeper:

3 Zone Max Comfort Deck: This is a nice feature for such an inexpensive treadmill. Essentially the walking/running deck is designed to react differently to your feet depending on where they land. Softer at the front to cushion your foot’s landing and firmer at the rear to allow you to push off firmly. This type of technology is what makes running/jogging on a good treadmill so much more enjoyable than training outside. (At least as far as your joints go.)

12 MPH top speed: This is a fairly high top speed for an entry level treadmill. You can work up quite a sweat running at 12 mph. The only problem is the rather slight unit weight of 183 lbs. This makes the LS8.0T not the best choice for extended periods of high intensity training.  Having said that it is well built and is fairly stable over short periods of running, especially for such a light unit.

“Journal” your workouts: The Livetrack fitness journal is a handy features that let’s you keep track of your workouts and the progress you’ve been making allowing you to build on past successes. A lot of treadmills have this type of feature built in these days but they’re often packaged with more expensive units. (The addition of a usb slot and downloadable workouts on the 2 higher end models is what excited us at Livestrong)

The Bottom Line

Livestrong has been getting a lot of positive buzz after their entrance into the treadmill market in 2009. Their treadmills are well made and aren’t ridiculously over priced. (Be sure to be on the look out for the sales they often have by clicking the “More Details” button on this page.)

A portion of their sales go to help Lance Armstrong’s Cancer foundation which is nice.

In terms of the LS 8.0T, it’s easy to assemble, quiet at all but the highest speeds and comes with a nice in built “journal” workout tracking system. It’s a solid entry level treadmill that would be a good fit for walkers and light joggers. For more intense trainers and runners we advise going a step up and choosing from the more solidly built LS10.0T or LS13.0T models.

Depending on the sale, Livestrong sell the LS10.0T for only $200 dollars more than the LS8.0T so it’s worth going for. Especially since you get an extra 60 or so lbs of weight and a stronger motor making it a much more reliable runner’s treadmill.
