Bowflex Treadclimber TC5000
The Mid Level Treadclimber Is Their Most Popular Model
The Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000 is the company’s best selling model and is their mid level machine. If you’ve seen the infomercial then you know what the draw is from the Treadclimbers: More calories burned, with less work! In fact, independent studies have shown that the unique workout action of the treadclimber does burn more calories than a traditional treadmill at the same speed. The machine is able to do this by combining the training movements of a treadmill, an elliptical and a stairmaster.
To be honest the Treadclimber workout isn’t the most gracious of movements but it can be effective. Just as long as your machine is running smoothly. Some customers have complained that the foot movement felt unatural to them and that they had a hard time getting used to it. It will take a while to get your feet used to the up and down, stepping movement.
The Bowflex Treadclimber TC5000 is a pretty significant upgrade over the TC1000. It has 5 more display indicators than the TC1000 including calories per minute, total calories, climb indicator, total steps and heart rate. Heart rate is measured accurately with a Polar wireless chest strap that is included.
Before we get into more details let’s look at the TC5000′s core features:

While the Bowflex Treadclimber TC5000 can provide a great workout without running, keep in mind that at over $2000 it’s definitely on the pricey side. The Bowflex Treadclimbers are great if you like the idea of a machine that can pack a lot of workout punch and not take up too much space.
Keep in mind that contrary to what you may see on their infomercials, treadclimbers can be a bit noisy. There are a lot of moving parts on this machine and inevitably that causes sound.
Let’s dig a little deeper:
Fat burning design: The whole draw of the Treadclimber series is it’s unique approach to cardio workouts. The 3-way movements involved allow you to get your heart rate up quickly and keeps it there. This unique design is what allows you to burn more calories, quicker and without running.
Polar chest strap included: Wireless chest straps are the best way to monitor your heart rate to make sure you are in the proper fat burning zone. (And to make sure your heart isn’t going to pop out of your chest!) They are far more accurate and reliable than hand rail monitors.
LED Display with 8 functions: While you workout you can keep your eye on your progress via the bright red LED readouts across the ergonomic console. One of these functions, the “climb indicator” is a fun feature that let’s you know every time you’ve climbed another 100 feet. It can give you a nice boost of motivation to get to that next 100 foot elevation plateau.
The Bottom Line
If you can afford it and you like the unique approach to cardio (aka you don’t like running!) then the Bowflex Treadclimber TC5000 might be for you. Treadclimbers are known for providing a tremendous workout and don’t take up much room. They are however quite heavy and don’t have a good warranty. 5 years on the motor is significantly below industry standards.
