Bowflex Treadclimber Reviews
Bowflex Puts A Spin On The Traditional Treadmill
The Bowflex treadclimber is supposed to combine the workout power of a treadmill, a stairclimber and an elliptical. Treadclimbers have an interesting design and do offer a unique approach to cardio, but don’t be overly influenced by Bowflex’s many infomercial ads. You’re not gonna look like the fitness models in the commercials in a few weeks! Having said that, the Bowflex Treadclimber does offer a unique approach to cardio that can really get your heart rate up and keep it there and burn an incredible amount of calories without having to run! ( This fact alone draws in a lot of customers lol)
While the treadclimber design can offer you an intense workout, Bowflex Treadclimbers have both pros and cons.
Pros
- Burn more calories with less perceived effort
- Works more core muscles in unison
- Minimizes joint impact
- Increase your hear rate quickly
- Compact design won’t take up to much space
- No running or jogging!
Cons
- Heavy and can be hard to move
- Poor warranty
- Customer service isn’t great
- Expensive

How The Bowflex Treadclimbers Work
The Bowflex treadclimber system is based on their patented “dual motion treadle system”. “Treadles” refer to the two moving walking areas your feet walk on. These two treadles move up and down while you stride. As they state in their commercials it combines the workout movements of three different exercises, the treadmill, the elliptical machine and the stairmaster. As has been reported by independent tests, the treadclimber motion does burn twice as many calories as a treadmill running at the same speed.
One of the big draws of the treadclimber other than its ability to provide a good workout without running, is its ability to provide low impact training. There’s a reason why treadmill manufacturers are always trying to one up each other in terms of cushioning, it’s because running can really be hard on your joints. Bowflex treadclimbers try to solve this problem with their walking only design. On the impact scale the treadclimber probably falls somewhere in between a treadmill and an elliptical machine.
Low Impact Combined With High Work Rate
The main problem with elliptical machines despite their low impact type of training is the fact that seriously hard to get your work rate up high enough in order to burn enough calories. There is a reason why elliptical machines are so popular in gyms. (And because they’re so easy use! i.e. require little effort!) You won’t find that with the Bowflex Treadclimber.
Unique Movement Takes Some Getting Used To
In fact, you’ll be sweating buckets in no time and you’ll feel your legs burning. One thing to keep in mind however with the Bowflex Treadclimber, is the fact that a lot of customers have stated that it takes a little while to get used to the unique movement that is asked of you by the Treadclimber.
In fact Bowflex recommends that first you simply use the Bowflex Treadclimber in treadmill mode to allow your body to get used to the unique foot positioning. After a week or so you can “switch on” the Treadclimber mode and start blasting away those calories.
